The List Server is independently owned and operated by Craig and Roberta Becker. The List Server is not the Official electronic communication medium for the Scofield Farms Residential Owners Association (ROA). The Official electronic communication medium for Scofield Farms ROA is this website. That said – the List server has served the community well for many years. The List Server provides for group discussions. This website also has a forum. The forum also provides for group discussions and a source for answers to many commonly asked questions. The forum is part of the official communication medium for the ROA. There are advantages to being on both the List Server and the Forum. The Webmaster recommends that you become members of both the List Server and the Forum. The following text shows you how to signup on the List Server and the List Server rules.

Visit YahooGroups!
There are lots of fun features available on YahooGroups!
that have little if anything to do with email. Here’s some of the features of the website that YahooGroups!
provides because we have an email group there. Any member of the group can use any of these features.
- Edit Membership. You can make lots of changes to your membership in the group including which email address,
your group mail comes to, how it’s delivered and what format it comes in. I’d like to encourage you to learn about
this feature because it’ll really help when you want to go to Fiji for a couple of months and don’t want
your email box filled up with email about cable outages in Scofield. - Email listserv. This is the feature most used by the group. Please see the Charter below. Sometimes traffic
is slow and others there are a number of messages in a single day. You can choose to receive each message as it
is sent, a digest of messages sent each day or to read messages on the website. - Files. We have security camera footage
of breakins, brochures for camps, maps etc. in this area. If you add files, and we certainly encourage it,
keep it clean, please. There are a couple of limitations on the files section of the website. We can’t upload files
larger than 5MB and the total limit is 100MB. Should we approach the limit, we’ll have to take down some of the
older files. - Photos. We have photos of pets, parades etc. Once upon a time a suggestion was made that each of us photograph
our pets so if someone finds a pet we can look it up and contact the owner. Kind of a fun idea. - Links. Right now we have only links to the APD’s crime statistics.
- Database. We have a contractors database.
- Polls. An initial message is sent via email to the group, members vote, we have an idea of the feelings
of the group on neighborhood issues. - Calendar. We could use it for scheduling neighborhood events. It is currently unused.
Scofield Farms ListservCharter
The Scofield Farms Listserv exists for the benefit of residents
of Scofield Farms and The Park at Scofield Farms.
Moderator:
This Listserv is owned and moderated by Craig Becker
(craig8128@perpendicular.com). Who really hates to have to codify ‘rules’
for the Listserv, but after many years, he’s discovered that it simply
needs to be done to avoid “problems”.
Membership:
Listserv membership is limited to residents of Scofield Farms and The
Park at Scofield Farms. In special circumstances, membership may be
considered for non-residents on a case-by-case basis. This decision
will be made by the Listserv Moderator in conjunction with input from
the Scofield Farms Board and any other interested parties.
Viruses:
The Moderator encourages you to run some kind of anti-virus software
on your computer, and to keep your anti-virus definitions current. If
your email address begins broadcasting virus-infected messages to the
Listserv, your posting privileges will be suspended until you have
fixed the situation on your end. Nothing personal — we just want to
try to help everyone else avoid catching your virus.
Listserv Content:
Messages to the Listserv may contain any content you desire. Your
Listserv Moderator is a strong opponent of censorship in any form, and
messages will never be censored on the basis of their
content. Even if it hurts.
However, your Moderator reserves the right to take action in the case
of any Listserv messages that threaten to disrupt, destroy, or
otherwise reduce the utility of the Listserv. For example:
- SPAM: “Make Money Fast” and so forth.
- Egregious Copyright Violations: no illegal MP3s, Warez, or MPEGs.
If you’ve got material like that that you’ve just got to
tell us about, put it on your own server and post a URL. - Libelous material: if you want to get sued, please don’t drag me
into court with you. - Regular postings of tired old jokes, “office humor”, or
“inspirational” stories: this is not the place to forward the
weekly Joke Digest you get from your great-aunt. - Overtly offensive material: porn, gross-outs, and other displays of
childishness. - Debilitating Flame Wars: flames happen, no big deal. But on rare
occasions, two or more people may become embroiled in massive displays
of flaming, like unto the face of the Sun in solar flare season. This
can disrupt or destroy a Listserv.
This list is not comprehensive and is provided only as a guide. The
general rule is this: if the message(s) are disruptive to the Listserv,
the Moderator may take action. The idea here is to keep the Listserv
running smoothly with as little “noise” as possible.
Here’s a good guideline: if you’re not sure if something will be
disruptive, go ahead and post it. If it causes a problem, we’ll
all learn something. The worst that you’ll get from the Moderator
will be “please don’t do that again — it really hosed things up”.
Enforcement:
In the case of SPAM from an obvious non-resident, the address will be
removed from the list with no discussion.
If a valid member of the Listserv engages in some kind of disruptive
behavior, they will receive at least one warning from the Moderator.
Additional warnings may be issued at the Moderator’s discretion, based
upon individual circumstances.
At his discretion, the Moderator may issue a Final Warning to a member
telling them to desist from some kind of messaging behavior. If this
Final Warning is ignored, the person’s posting privileges will be
suspended — either permanently or until they can convince the
Moderator that they’ve cleaned up their act.
When in doubt, the spirit, not the letter, of this Charter will take
precedence.
